Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic and public talker. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency which provides commentary and videos on depictions of women's roles in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has won awards for her writing, is an activist blogger. She was the co-creator as well as the executive director for Feminist Frequency, a not-for-profit educational site that examines the representation of women's roles in popular media narratives. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the main goals of her organization. But, she also strives to raise awareness about things like discrimination and harassment of women on the internet. Sarkeesian who has an MA in Political and Social Thinking at York University, is also well-known as a sought-after public presenter. She has delivered speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. At a young age she was captivated by issues of gender identity and feminist ideas. As a student, in 2009 she developed the Feminist Frequency website. Someone who was ambitious was planning to launch a web series that would examine the role of gender in games. Then, she found herself the target of an internet harassment campaign. But the assault did not deter her instead it strengthened her determination to be a feminist media critic. Her work has earned her numerous awards to recognize her significant contributions to the world of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for years and founded Feminist Frequency which is an non-profit educational organization that studies the representation of women in pop culture.
